Spring Cleaning Tips For Restaurants
It’s that time of the year when all the mops, buckets and brooms have a sweep through the home or workplace. Having a good spring clean will give your living and working environments a new lease of life.
And you may find that your cooking equipment could benefit from a clean too.
Here are five tips on how to clean your free standing deep fat fryer.
1. Clean regularly. The more often you clean your fryer, the easier it will be to remove burnt on grease and foods. Using a long handled brush with soft bristles will gently scrub the large deep pot.
2. Filter and replace the oil frequently. For heavy restaurant use, the oil will need to be replaced once or twice a day. The oil will need to be completely replaced if it grows darker in colour, smokes at a low temperature or gives off a strong smell.
3. Brush the heating coils clean whenever the oil is drained. Before the new, or filtered oil, is added back to the fryer, use a long handled fryer scrubbing brush to remove bits of food from the coils. This will keep the heating element effective and limit burnt food particles released into the oil.
4. Keep up the appearance. Wipe the exterior of the flyer or a dry cloth or blue roll at the end of each day. This will prevent built up of grime and limit spill overs which will make the floor slippery.
5. 'Boil out' clean every three to six months. A 'boil out' will thoroughly clean your commercial fryer which should be filled with warm water and simmered or boiled. Wearing rubber gloves, use a long handled soft bristle brush to dislodge any trapped foods. Drain the fryer, then scrub and rinse as you would after a frequent clean.
